LICONS Dissemination events to July 2005

Two of the LICONS team (as a direct result of the LICONS project) are now members of working party groups of European Standards (CEN TC 193/SC1/WG8, CEN TC 193/SC1/WG11 and COST E34). This has provided the opportunity for third party visitors to attend LICONS tests and opened a channel for the LICONS results to play a crucial part in the formulation of European Standards for this type of work.

A presentation of LICONS activities was made at Gecorpa's Demo-nary on "Conservation and Repair of Timber Structures” in Porto on 5 May 2005. There were in excess of 200 attendees.

Members of the LICONS team attended and participated in a paper presentation of the 8th World Conference on Timber Engineering, 14-17 June 1004, Lahti, Finland.

Maude Forte, a wood engineering student from France spent a 3 month period during the summer of 2003 at the Rotafix offices, preparing test samples.

A dissemination event was held at LNEC, Lisbon on 6 and 7 December 2004 at which 20 practising professionals were attendees. This was then repeated over 3 days on 31 January + 1 and 2 February 2005. 75 individuals attended over the three day period and this included a number of local authority staff involved with European-funded restoration of buildings in Lisbon.

Supervision was provided for a UK PhD student, Pav Alam, who also provided valuable information for the LICONS project.

Joao Custodio from LNEC, Lisbon is embarking on a PhD which will further extend the work of LICONS.

Members of the LICONS team participated in an international conference on timber conservation in Florence from 23 to 27 February 2005 (Convego internazionale su Conservazione delle Strutture Lignee antiche).

A LICONS dissemination event was held in Paris on 21 June 2005 in collaboration with LRBB. There were 6 specialist contractors in attendance.

Pascal Renaudin, a wood engineering student from France, is at present based in Rotafix undertaking further checks on LICONS’ research and translating the Task 6 manual into French. Once that is completed it will be distributed to the French contractors who attended training at the Paris meeting.

A briefing on the LICONS project will be presented by LICONS team members from Portugal, Italy and the UK at the forthcoming Cost E34 meeting in Dubendorf, Switzerland on 20 September 2005.
